Abstract

Blockchain technology is an upcoming technology with many proposed applications in the healthcare sector. One such application is the Electronic Health Records (EHR). Traditional paper-based health records might cause inconvenience in information sharing and therefore, when the patient goes to another hospital, he has to go through the treatment once again, thereby leading to the wastage of already available medical resources. To address this issue, Electronic Health Reports (EHR) are widely being adopted in India owing to the covid-19 pandemic. A digitized version of patient's health records is known as the EHR, which contains sensitive information about the patients. This attracts the attention of cyber-attackers. Hospitals provide very few measures to secure medical reports. As a result, healthcare reports can be tampered with when shared between people and other healthcare organizations. Although the EHRs are not shared very often, the data remains vulnerable even when it remains in a single storage. Some of the technical barriers involved in sharing the reports include confidentiality, privacy, integrity, availability and so on. To address this issue, we have proposed a blockchain-based simple solution that makes use of the consensus algorithm to store and share healthcare reports securely.
