Adoption of wheat production technologies as influenced by size of land holding and prevailing cropping system in Haryana

Abstract

A field survey was conducted in three major cropping systems system during the season of Kharif 2020-
2021. The objective of the Agriculture was to evaluate the gap of transfer of technology in rice-wheat,
bajra-wheat and cotton-wheat systems of Haryana state . This paper explores the awareness, adoption,
dissemination of good agricultural practices among big, small and marginal framers of the three major
cropping systems.It was revealed that only 39.9% and 41% of the farmers were following seed treatment
and recommended dose of nitrogen application. Only 32.3% of the farmers were able to identify the tags
of quality seeds. Herbicide rotation was followed by 56% farmers. Forty percent farmers said that they
increased nitrogen application over the years. The source of new information on agriculture inputs,
technology etc. was their neighbours followed by KVK and officials of department of Agriculture and
Farmers Welfare, input dealers, self opinion and Agriculture University. More than 40% farmers reported
increase in wheat yields whereas 39% said they observed no change while 10% reported decrease in
wheat yields. The survey results suggested that there are large gaps of production technology, which
needs to be disseminated to achieve potential yield of present day varieties of wheat.
