Comparison of emotional intelligence and moral intelligence on smoker and non- smoker boys in sample of nursing student in Iran

Abstract

This study was aimed to Comparison of emotional intelligence and moral intelligence in tobacco user and nonuser
male students in the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in 2017".A descriptive, and cross-sectional
study was conducted on 100 tobacco user and 100 non-user were selected by snowball method. The research
instrument was a questionnaire on demographic data, Bradbury-Graves emotional intelligence and Lennick and
Kiel moral intelligence were completed by students. data analysis was performed using SPSS software version
16, and using descriptive statistics (central and dispersion indicators) and inferential statistics (with regard to
the normality of independent t-tests, analysis of variance, correlation test, Pearson and multiple regression and
logistics).The mean score of emotional intelligence in tobacco user and tobacco non-user students did not show
a statistically significant difference. Also, the mean scores of moral intelligence in tobacco user and tobacco
non-user students was not statistically significant.The need to add emotional intelligence training modules in
order to accurately manage emotions associated with stressful situations and craving for cigarette. These
emotional coping strategies provide the possibility of early detection of emotions (emotional clarity) so that if
the emotions seem harmful, they quickly regulate the emotion (emotional recovery).
