Investigating the Causes of Construction Delay in Engineering Projects and Their Effects in Jordan
Main Article Content
Abstract
The construction industry is an integral factor of economic development. Various literatures has shown that delay is a significant and most frequent risk faced during the year by the construction industry, and indicated that there are substantial delays in public initiatives in Jordan needing further studies. The aim of this research paper is to undertake the reasons that cause project delays (public projects) under contractors, suppliers, and customer's expectations in the construction industry in the Northern Area, Irbid, Jordan. To determine the reasons and consequences of delay in Jordan's building sector, a questionnaire analysis was conducted to investigate the relationship between variables (funding, material, design, planning, manpower and external factors) and project delays. All factors were found impacting project delay significantly. This research offered some interpretation and analytical added value. The delay in projects has some impact on the parties concerned. Managing and reviving a project delay was a complex task between various parties. The investigator recommends that future researches study other factors which can have a direct effect on the project delay. It is not necessary to reach a consensus, because each party is interested in protecting its interest.
