Teaching Environmental Education Using Problem and Focus Group Based Learning for Undergraduate students

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to developenvironmental education teaching plans using Problem and Focus Group Based Learning to be efficient and effective, to study and compare knowledge, attitude and environmental ethics of students before and after class and to compare knowledge, attitudes and environmental ethics of students with different gender. The sample used in the research were 1st year 75 undergraduate students in Environmental Education program, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahasarakham University, which was obtained by purposive sampling. The research instruments were teaching plans for environmental education using Problem and Focus Group Based Learning, environmental knowledge test,environmental attitude test and environmental ethics test. The statistics used for data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and hypothesis testing using t-test, F-test(One – Way MANOVA, One – Way MANCOVA). The results of the research showed that: 1) Teaching plans for environmental education Problem and Focus Group Based Learning for undergraduate students were efficiency 86.12 / 82.12, the index of effectiveness was 0.6476, meaning that students had increased environmental knowledge, and effected students having more learning progress increased after using the lesson plans at 64.76 percent. 2) After study, the students had average score of environmental knowledge, environmental attitude and environmental ethics higher than before study with statistically significance at the level .05. 3) There was no difference of average score of environmentalknowledge, environmental attitude and environmental ethics of the students with different gender.
