Evaluation o Infection Control in Medical Laboratories of Hospital and Primary Health Care Centers in Al-Muthana Province/ Iraq

Abstract

Many accidental infection acquired from laboratory caused by a broad range of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites , alsofor maintain of staff health and suitable work environment, therefore An infection control system was introduced to reduce nosocomial infections in the health institutions. , A descriptive study - cross sectional study, Comprehensive sample laboratories of hospitals and primary health care centers (PHCCs) , This study was conducted from 28 September 2020 through the end of March 2021.Including ( 20) laboratory of hospitals and ( 35) laboratory PHCCs ,The results: according to building indicators of hospitals good ( 21% ) and acceptable (79%) while forPHCCs good (6%) and acceptable (84%), According to healthsafetyand medical equipment of hospital (29%) acceptable (71%) poor while PHCCs (23%) acceptable (77%) poor , For waste management indicators hospital (14%) good (14%) acceptable (72%) poor while for PHCCs (31%) poor (69%) and acceptable. Activating and improving the work of infection control units by setting up an action plan that includes training courses for workers on sound health practices and training specialized staff in isolation and disposal of medical waste.
