The Effectiveness of Android-Based Education Media to Improve Marriage Candidates Knowledge Concerning Family Planning

Abstract

Background: Family planning is one of the policies for sustainable human resource development through maturity of marriage, birth control, fostering family resilience, and improving family welfare to realize the norms of a small, happy, and prosperous family.Aims: This study aimed to determine educational media's effectiveness to increase the prospective bride and groom's knowledge about family planning. The E-KCP application is an academic media about family planning designed in the form of an Android-based application. This application utilizes internet media to create learning experiences and understandthe material for its users.Methods: The study used the Quasi Experiment method,a non-equivalent control group design with pre-test and post-test. This study sample was 60 marriage candidates using the purposive sampling technique registered at the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) Somba Opu, Gowa Regency. This study used primary data.


The statistical test used was the Wilcoxon test and the Mann Whitney test.Results: The study showed the difference before and after the intervention.The treatment group was given an android-based educational media (E-KCP application), and the control group was given a pocket-book.The Wilcoxon test in the treatment group and the control group obtained p-value = 0.000 (p <0.05), whichmeans that the educational media given to the treatment and control groups could increase the marriage candidate's knowledge and groom. The Mann-Whitney test was carried out to see the difference in knowledge between the two groups.The pretest results of the treatment and control groups obtained a p-value = 0.786 (p> 0.05). It means that there was no difference in knowledge. The post-test results in the treatment and control groups obtained a p-value = 0.000 (p<0.05), which means a difference in the prospective bride and groom's knowledge about family planning between both groupsintervention. Conclusion: Android-based educational media (E-KCP application) effectively increases the prospective bride and groom's knowledge about family planning.
