Abstract

Background:A study on prophylactic use of antibiotics to prevent infection and to determine the indication extent and appropriateness of use of prophylacticantibiotics


Methods:


A four point prevalencestudywasconducted in which the patients werescreened for the use of prophylacticantibiotics.


Results:


Of500 antibiotics prescriptions 150 antibioticsweregiven as prophylaxis and adherence to protocolwasseenin 140 cases


Conclusion:


Antibioticsprophylaxisgivenoutside the operating room accounts for a considerable pat of in -hospital use of antibiotics. All the prescriptions givenwerestrictlyadherent to the protocol.
